Author Guidelines
Overview
- The American Journal of Humanities & Cultural Studies (AJHCS) welcomes original scholarly and creative contributions that explore human culture, identity, history, philosophy, literature, and the arts.
- Authors must ensure their submissions adhere to the journal’s formatting, referencing, and ethical standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these guidelines may be returned for revision prior to peer review.
Manuscript Types
- Original Research Articles: Scholarly papers presenting new theoretical insights, historical interpretations, or cultural critiques.
- Essays & Reflections: Intellectual explorations and philosophical reflections on human experience, ethics, or artistic meaning.
- Creative Works: Short fiction, poetry, or visual arts submitted with contextual notes or critical commentary.
- Book & Film Reviews: Analytical reviews of recent works relevant to the journal's scope.
- Case Studies & Cultural Analyses: In-depth studies on cultural heritage, social movements, or artistic practices across regions or communities.
Required Sections

Manuscript Format
- Language: Submissions must be in fluent academic English or translated accordingly.
- File Format: Microsoft Word (.docx) is required for textual submissions. Visual artwork should be submitted as high-resolution images (JPEG, PNG, or TIFF).
- Font & Spacing: Times New Roman, 12 pt, double-spaced, 1-inch margins.
- Word Limits: Research Articles (5000–8000 words), Essays (3000–5000 words), Creative Submissions (up to 3000 words or 5 images).
- Figures & Tables: High resolution (min. 300 DPI); tables must be in editable format.
- Placement: Visuals and tables should be embedded within the text or appended at the end.
Abstract And Keywords
- Abstract: Summarize the main themes, theoretical lens, and conclusions of the work. Should not exceed 250 words.
- Keywords: Provide 4–10 keywords that represent the article’s themes, subject matter, or methodologies.
Citation And Referencing
- AJHCS accepts MLA (Modern Language Association) or Chicago Manual of Style referencing formats, depending on disciplinary norms.

Cover Letter
- All submissions should be accompanied by a cover letter including:
- • Type of submission (e.g., Research, Essay, Creative Work).
- • A brief description of the work's purpose and significance.
- • Confirmation of original authorship and exclusive submission.
- • Disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest.
- • (Optional) Suggestions for potential peer reviewers.
Submission Process
- Manuscripts must be submitted through the online submission system.
- Steps:
- 1. Register or log in to your author account.
- 2. Fill out article metadata: title, abstract, keywords, and author info.
- 3. Upload manuscript and any supplementary files.
- 4. Confirm compliance with journal policies.
- 5. Submit and track status via the dashboard.
Peer Review Process
- All academic submissions are subject to a **double-blind peer review** process.
- Review Steps:
- 1. Editorial Screening – Initial check for scope and format compliance.
- 2. Reviewer Assignment – Sent to two independent reviewers.
- 3. Reviewer Feedback – Authors receive comments and decision: Accept, Minor/Major Revision, or Reject.
- 4. Revisions – Authors submit updated manuscript and responses.
- 5. Final Decision – Made by the Editor-in-Chief or section editor.
- Creative submissions may be reviewed by editorial board members or invited artistic reviewers.
Publication Ethics
- Originality: Submissions must be original and unpublished.
- Plagiarism: All submissions are screened with plagiarism detection tools.
- Conflict of Interest: Any potential conflicts must be declared.
- Ethical Considerations: For works involving sensitive topics or interviews, authors must ensure ethical clearance and consent where applicable.
Publication Charges
- AJHCS is an open-access journal. An Article Processing Charge (APC) is required upon acceptance to support editorial services and hosting.
- APC Rates:
- • High-Income Countries: $1500
- • Middle-Income Countries: $1000
- • Low-Income Countries: $500
- Authors may request waivers during submission based on financial constraints.
Copyright And License
- All works are published under the **Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0)**.
- Authors retain full copyright and grant the journal non-exclusive rights to publish the work.
- Proper attribution is required for reuse or distribution of published content.
